Mines of Paris
Thought we meant the catacombs of Paris? No – we mean the mines of Paris. The catacombs, although scary, don’t compare with the mines. Why? Well, consider the legends. People say that the mines consist of ancient cults and creatures that patrol these mines. Added to that are the spirits that roam free within its walls and reports of people getting lost forever.
Now, these legends are based out of fear, however, the reality is equally scary. These mines are about 600 kilometers long and most of them are unknown. So, once you enter the area, your chances of making it back out are bleak. Being underground, these mines completely kill any sound from the outside, making it impossible for anyone to hear you, or vice versa. Among the mines, you will find many human bones to give you company and a lot of narrow passages that will test your claustrophobia even if you don’t have one. Clearly not the best place to go to, if you love the idea of living.
The Door to Hell
Located in Turkmenistan, Ahal Province, the Door to Hell is a crater that is about 230 feet wide. What is so unique about this crater? The fact that it won’t stop burning and that it has been burning for over 40 years now. Back in 1971, Soviet scientists were trying to find oil in this particular location when they hit a methane reserve and their drilling platform collapsed. This led to the crater being formed and the dangerous methane gas being released into the air. To counter the effect the scientists decided to burn the methane off and it has been burning since. One thing is clear, going there is out of the question.

Well, this island is deemed as one of the world’s scariest places and is completely banned for the public. The inhabitants of this island are the golden lancehead vipers whose venom actually adapted over time to suit the needs of the island. Since it’s surrounded by water, the island hardly has any pray on the ground, so the only pray they have are birds. To avoid the trouble of tracking down the birds and waiting for the poison to kick in, these snakes have their poison enhanced five times over. That means, they can kill their prey instantly and even melt human flesh.
